December 2023 Newsletter

We lost one of our saints, Harry Trupp on November 21st. He blessed St. Matthias with his presence and was the epitome of being a disciple of Christ as an evangelist inviting everyone he met to attend St. Matthias. He is our Bishop’s Warden and served as Worship Leader, Lay Eucharist Minister, Visiting Eucharist Minister, and Lector.  He was directly responsible for almost all the recent improvements at our church. Harry was also a key member of our annual community events. Visitation is Monday, December 11th from 2:00-5:00 at Primrose Funeral Home in Devine. We’ll be having a Celebration of Life service Tuesday, December 12th at St. Matthias’ Church, 1:00 pm with reception following the service and internment.

As we enter the Advent season, we’ll have the hanging of the greens on Consecration Sunday, December 3rd. We’ll bless pledge cards during the service. After the service we’ll be making tamales for Tamalada Sunday. We’ll share a meal then make different kinds of tamales for everyone to take home.

On December 17th, we’re honored to recognize St. Matthias’s first Lay Chaplain! JoAnn has been working and studying very hard. We’ll see what great plans the Holy Spirit has for her.

On Wednesday, December 20th we’ll have our annual Lessons and Carrols service.

We’re taking a break from Bible Study until after the holidays. We’ll start up again in the New Year.
